@GilesLavery

Do you know the band called ''Black Sword Thunder Attack''?
What is your opinion about them?

What is your favourite metal genre? What do you think of MANOWAR and other Epic Metal bands?
Are you fond of USPM (United States Power Metal) or do you prefer Europe's Power Metal bands?

Which are your favourite bands nowadays? New bands and old bands?

In a question ''IRON MAIDEN VS METALLICA'' what would you answer?

Pavlos έγραψε: Παρ 09 Φεβ 2024, 23:35 Giles, since you experienced it yourself, could you give us informaion about Bill's last years? How was his health, how was his view on Metal (music and scene) and Warlord? What was he like when he realized that he couldn't perform or even record anymore? Did he have further plans? Thanx.
His health got very bad,
His wife left him and filed for divorce.
He died with a broken heart basically.
He was a metal fan, but very very selective, he probably only liked a small amount of metal compared to you and me...
He loved old Savatage, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions.
As early as 2014 he was saying the band should tour without him as he couldn't handle the struggle of the road.
He saw himself as more of a composer than "the best one to play the music".
Songwriting was really his main love.
He did lose a bit of interest toward the end as it's hard to find motivation when very sick.
His future plans were to try and stay alive... it was very sad to see.
I get so angry when people say we are doing this for money or for ourselves... we watched our dear friend waste away, someone who's music the world should hear...millions of peple should know his name and his songs.
He LOVED you guys... he realy did.

@Bersekeros With all these intricate questions, I'm now convinced you're about to write a biography of Giles. :D

GilesLavery έγραψε: Παρ 09 Φεβ 2024, 23:35 One thing i see mentioned in several places online is how Mark Zonder said after Bill's passing, that there could be no more Warlord without Bill... people keep refering to that particualy Rock Hard interview (promoting the A-Z album)
Bill hasdtried to convince Mark to continue Warlord (as Bill was too unwell to do so) ... Bill felt as long as the songs were performed well then it didn't matter if he wasnt there to play them (he used to say it was like classical music, where the composer is gone or absent, but the songs live on)
Mark resisted this at first, he was so upset at Bill's death.
After a while alot of what Bill had written to us and suggested we do, started making sense... it just needed time.
Soon Mark had a strong desire to play these songs live and work on this unfinished music.
People are allowed to change their minds and how they feel, especially in greif and the stages of greiving.
I also saw this quote. Words of a man in anger and sadness. Quite disrespectful to reproduce those words here and there, I wonder how those people who are copying this, would act through the loss of a beloved person. To me this is total no sense facebook witch-hunting. Enough.

Are you a Vinyl / CD collector yourself ?
Are you in favor of physical VS digital format?
How do you find the prices of the physical formats nowadays?
More expensive than before, the same or cheaper than in past?
Any thoughts on the future of the music industry in general and in heavy metal in particular?
How difficult will be for someone to be a fully professional musician, without a morning job?
I do collect Iron Maiden vinyl

Physical vs digital : i am mostly happy that music is so available and portable now...for example, i grew up in New Zealand and couldnt even find it until 1993... these days it would be a click away.

Cds seem to be dropping in price and selling less.
Vinyl is gretting to be kind of crazy high prices from some labels.

For the future of this genre, i think someone is going to have to come out with something like the first Iron Maiden album, and have that impact... great songs, great players, great image... i do hope the triggered drums thing goes away soon.

I think its very hard for any new band, as even established bands members have to keep day jobs or be in 10 different projects at once to make it work financially.
We (Warlord) want to start posting on our fb page some music by some of the younger talented bands we see, we should all help each other in this genre.
Edit: i couldnt find Manowar "Into Glory Ride" until 1993 i meant to type

I know.

I had the chance to talk to Bill at the Keep It True warm up party back in 2013.

It maybe was just a 15 minutes talk but it will echo forever in my head.

I was very upset as the main attack came from two people we considered friends and allies in this business.
It seemed like they could say anything they like about us, and that was fine... but then if we wanted to have our say... that was a crime or major offense... then the gaslighting and twisting of words began... so i stayed away from those FB threads

USPM, i love many of these bands, and i probably like it moreso than Euro PM

My favorites that still make records:
Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Fifth Angel, Riot, Queensryche, Heir Apparent, so many to type... i also love alot of AOR bands.

@GilesLavery

What do you think of Warlord's and Bill's music, as the uniqueness of it's kind is concerned?

Tsamis's songwriting was so unique, that is very difficult for someone to try to write something, that is similar or resembles the style and the feeling.
We can see, for example, some bands, that try to play like Maiden, Priest etc but with WARLORD is so different.

It's almost impossible for someone, even to try to write something like that. WARLORDS's music is so special.

What do you think of WARLORD's uniqueness in Heavy Metal?

It really is, we were and are fotunate to have these unfinished pieces of music from Bill that we were able to "finish" ... I can't imagine this without that starting point.
I love uniqueness in music... even when a band does something really different that the fans don't always understand, i like it... when the Scorpions did Eye II Eye, many hated it, i liked about half of it which sounded like typical Scorpions to me, just through a more late 90s filter... but mainly i commended them for trying something unique.

The reason I mentioned earlier ''Black Sword Thunder Attack'' is that, they are the only band that kind of reminds me of WARLORD / Lordian Guard and approaches the same feeling.

No other band, so many years, has even attempted to sound like WARLORD.

It is unbelievably difficult.
